`CH_(3)OH and C_(2)H_(5)OH` can be differentiated by using `Na_(2)CO_(3)` and `l_(2)` (Iodoform test). `C_(2)H_(5)OH` gives yellow precipitate of `CHl_(3)` whereas `CH_(3)OH` does not react with it.
