If a body is projected with a speed lesser than escape velocity, then

A

the body can reach a certain height and may fall down following a straight line path

B

the body can reach a certain height and may fall down following a parabolic path

C

the body may orbit the earth in a circular orbit

D

the body may orbit the earth in an elliptical orbit

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C, D

i. If `vltv_(e)` and the body is projected vertically upwards, the body will rise up to will rise up to that height where its velocity becomes zero. After that it will fall freely due to gravity following a straight line path.
ii If `vltv_(e)` but the body is projected at some angle w.r.t vertical direction, the body wil reach up to a certain height (where verticaly component of the velocity becomes zero) and then fall down following a parabolic path (this will be a case of projectile motion).
iii. If `v=v_(0)=sqrt(GM//R), ` then the orbit will be circular.
But if `v_(0)ltvltv_(e)` (escape velocity), then the orbit will circular.
But if `v_(0)ltvltv_(e)` (escape velocity), then the orbit will be and ellipse.
So, all the options are correct.
