How can the constants k and n of the Freundlich adsorption equation be calculated ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Freundlich adsorption isotherm equation is
`(x)/(m)=k.P^(1//n) implies x//m`=Extent of adsorption `implies P` =Pressure
k and n are constants which depend on the nature of the adsorbent and the gas at a particul temperature.
Applying logarithm to the above equation `log""(x)/(m)=log""K+(1)/(n)log P` .
`to` A graph is plotted taking log `(x)/(m)` on y-axis and log P on x. If the graph is a straight line then Freundlich isotherm is valid.
`to` The slope of the straight line gives `(1)/(n)` value.
`to` The intercept on the y-axis gives value of log K.
`to (1)/(n)` has values between 0 and 1.
When `(1)/(n)=0,(x)/(m)`= constant, the adsorption is independent of pressure .
`(1)/(n)=1,(x)/(m)=kP` i.e. `(x)/(m) prop P`.
