Explain why the dipole moment of chlorobenzene is lower than that of cyclohexychloride .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The dipole moment of chloro benzene is lower than that of cyclo hexyl chloride .
Explanation :
`to` The polarity of `C - Cl` bond in chlorobenzene is less than the polarity of `C - Cl` bond in cyclo hexyl chloride .
`to` The above fact is due to the `sp^(2)` hybridisation of 'C' atom in chlorobenzene where as in cyclo hexyl chloride 'C' atom's hybridisation is `sp^(3)`- hybridisation .
