Write the equations of any aldehyde with Fehlings reagent.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Fehlings reagent is mixture of two solutions. Fehling's A and Fehling's B .
Fehling's A -aq. `CuSO_(4)` solution
Fehling's B -Sodium potassium tartarate (Rochelle salt)
Acetaldehyde reacts with Fehling's reagent and gives a red brown ppt.
Reaction :
`CH_(3)-CHO+2CU^(+2) + 5OH^(-) to RCOO^(-) + underset("Red")(CU_(2)O)+underset("-brown ppt")(3H_(2)O)`
