Explain OH group attached to benzene ring activates it towards electrophilic substitution.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The -OH group attached to benzene ring activates it towards electrophilic substitution.
Explanation : When an electrophilie is attacked , the -OH group exerts +R effect on the benzene ring. On electrodensity in the ring increases at ortho and para positions. When an electrophilic attacks , substitution takes palce at O and p-positions. So benzene ring activates towards electrophilic substitution.
