Describe the Cannizaro reaction

Explanation

Cannizaro reaction : On treating with concentrated alkali, aldehydes which do not have any `alpha`-hydrogen atom, undergo self oxidation and reduction (disproptionation) reaction. This reaction is called cannizaro reaction.
