A steel wire 0.72 m long has a mass of `5.0 xx10^(_3) kg `.If the wire is under a tension of 60N , what is the speed of transverse waves on the wire?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Mass par unit length of the wire,
`mu = ( 5.0 xx10^(3) kg)/( 0.72m) = 6.9 xx 10^(-3)kg m^(-1)`
Tension, `T = 60N `
The speed of wave on the wire is given by
`v = sqrt((T)/( mu))=sqrt((60N)/(6.9 xx10^(-3) kgm^(-1))) = 93 ms^(-1)`
