Three voltmeters are connected as shown.

A potential difference has been applied between `A` and `B`. On closing the swich `S`, readings of voltmeters?

A

`V_(1)` increases

B

`V_(1)` decreases

C

`V_(2)` and `V_(3)` both increases

D

One of `V_(2)` and V_(3)` increases and other decreases.

The correct Answer is:
C

Initially, when swich is open, `V_(2)` and `V_(3)` will be out of circuit
or they are short-circuied. So no potential difference is across
V_(2)` and `V_(3)`. On closing the swich, all three voltmeters will be on parallel. Now, three is same potential difference across `V_(2)` and `V_(3)`. So potential difference across `V_(2)` and `V_(3)` increases and potential difference across `V_(1)` remains the same.

Three voltmeters A, B and C having resistances R, 1.5 R and 3 R respectively are used in a circuit as shown. When a potential difference is applied between X and Y, the readings of the voltmeters are V_1, V_2 and V_3 respectively. Then :

Resistances R_(1) and R_(2) , each 600 Omega , are connected in series as shown in figure-3.382. The potential difference between points A and B is 120 V. Find the reading of voltmeter connected between points C and D ifits resistance is 120 Omega

How is voltmeter connected in the circuit to measure potential difference between two points ?

Three voltmeters all having different resistance, are joined as shown. When some potential difference is applied acros A and B , their readings are V_1,V_2 and V_3. Then

Resistances R_(1) and R_(2) each 60 are connected in series as shown in figure. The potential difference between A and B is kept 120 volt. Then what will be tha reading of voltmeter connected between thapoint C and D if resistance of voltmeter is 120 Omega ?

A,B and C are voltmeters of resistance R, 1.5 R and 3R respectively as shown in the figure. When some potential difference is applied between X and Y, the voltmeter reading are V_A , V_B and V_C respectively.
