For the same statement as above, the ration of the two image sizes for these two positions of the lens is

A

`[(D-d)/(D+d)]^(2)`

B

`[(D+d)/(D-d)]^(2)`

C

`[(D-2d)/(D+2d)]^(2)`

D

`[(D+2d)/(D-2d)]^(2)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

If the object is at `u=x_(1)` ,
`m_(1)=(I_(1))/(O)=(D-x_(1))/(x_(1))`
Now, `x_(1)=(1)/(2)(D-d),`
where `d=sqrt(D(D-4f))`
`m_(1)=(D-(D-d)//2)/((D+d)//2)=((D+d)/(D-d))`
Similarly, when the object is at `x_(2)` , the magnification is
`X_(2)=(1)/(2)(D+d)`
`m_(2)=(I_(2))/(O)=(D-x_(2))/(x_(2))=(D-(D+d)//2)/((D+d)//2)=(D=d)/(D+d)`
The ratio of magnification is
`(m_(2))/(m_(1))=((D-d)(D+d))/((D+d)(D-d))=((D-d)/(D+d))^(2)`

In may experimental set-ups the source and screen are fixed at a distance say D and the lens is movable. Show that there are two positions for the lens for which an image is formed on the screen. Find the distance between these points and the ratio of the image sizes for these two points.

The distance between the object and the screen is d (greater than 4 times the focal length of a convex lens). Real images of the object are obtained on the screen for two positions of the lens that are separated by distance x apart. The ratio of size of the images in the two positions of the lens are

When the distance between the object and the screen is more than 4 f . We can obtain image of the object on the screen for the two positions of the lens. If is called displacement method. A source of light is located at a disatnce l = 90 cm from a screen. A thin converging lens provides the sharp image of the source when placed between the source of light and the screen at two positions. An object is placed at a distance of 12 cm from a convex lens on its principal axis and a virtual image of certain size is formed. If the object is moved 8 cm away from the lens, a real image of the same size as that of the virtual image is formed. The focal length of the lens in cm is
