In young's experiment, the interfacing waves have amplitudes in the ratio `3:2`. Find the ratio of (a) amplitudes and (b) intensities, between the bright and dark fringers.

Here, we have to obtain the ratio
`(A_(max))/(A_(min)) = (A_(1) + A_(2))/(A_(1) - A_(2))`
and also the corresponding ratio of intensities
`(I_(max))/(I_(min)) = (A_(1) + A_(2))^2/(A_(1) - A_(2))^(2)`
But `(A_(1))/(A_(2)) = 3/2 ("given")`
By componendo and dividendo,
`(A_(1) + A_(2))/(A_(1) - A_(2)) =(3 + 2)/(3 - 2) = 5`
Hence,
`(A_(max))/(A_(min)) = 5` and `(I_(max))/(I_(min)) =(A_(1) + A_(2))^(2)/(A_(1) - A_(2))^(2)=25`
