Two particles Y and Z emitted by a radioactive source at P made tracks in a chamber as illustrated in the Fig. 1.134. A magnetic field acts downward into the paper. Careful measurements showed that both tracks were circular, the radius of Y track being half that of the Z track. Which one of the following statements is certainly true?

A

Both particles Y and Z carried a positive charge

B

The mass of particle Z was one half that of particle Y

C

The mass of particle Z was twice that of particle Y

D

The charge of particle Z was twice that of particle Y

The correct Answer is:
a

If is clear from Right Palm Rule that the charges are positively
charged.
As `r=(mv)/(qB)`
The radius of path not the only fuction of either m or
q. For (b), (c) and (d) we cannot make clear statement, but
statement (a) is certainly ture.

A radioactive element X has an atomic number of 100. It decays directly into an element Y which decays directly into an element Z . In both the processes either one alpha or one beta- particle is emitted. Which of the following statement could be true?

Below given figure shows a lamina in X-Y plane. Two axes Z and Z1 pass perpendicular to its plane. A force vecF acts in the plane of lamina at point P as shown. Which of the following are true? (The point Pis closer to Z1-axis than the Z-axis.)

Eight friends Q, R, S, T, V, W, Y and Z are sitting around a circular table, facing the centre. There are three males and five females in the group of friends. No two males are immediate neighbours of each other, V sits second to the right of his wife. S sits third to the right of V. W sits second to the right of her husband Z. Z is not an immediate neighbour of V’s wife. T is a male and Y is not an immediate neighbour of V. R sits second to the right of Q. Which of the following statements regarding S is definitely correct? 1) S is one of the male members of the group. 2) Both the immediate neighbours of S are females. 3) S sits third to the left of T 4) W is an immediate neighbour of S. 5) S sits second to the right of Q.

Two racing cars 'A' and 'B' having masses 'M' and '2m' respectively start running from the starting line on a horizontal plane. Both cars 'A' and B' have same speed 'V' which is constant through out the journey. The track of the two cars are the arcs of concentric circle having centres O_(1) and O_(2) as shwon in figure with data. The friction coefficient of the two cars with the road is same. There is a finishing line at the end of the arc. Using these informations solve the following questions. The magnitude of relative acceleration of two cars when car 'A' just reaches the end of circular arc of radius Y .
