A metal rod `1.5m` long rotates about its one end in a vertical plane at right angles to the magnetic meridian. If the frequency of rotation is `20 rev s^(-1)`, find the emf induced between the ends of the rod `(B_(H) = 0.32G)`.

Text Solution

When the rod rotates in a vertical plane perpendicualr to the megnetic meridian, it will cut the horizontal component of earth's magnetic field so that
`e = (1)/(2)B_(H)l^(2)omega = pil^(2) fB_(H)` (as `omega = 2pif`)

Subsituting the given data,
` = pi xx (1.5)^(2) xx 20 xx 0.32 xx 10^(-4) = 4.5mV`
