Two circular, similar, coaxial loops carry equal currents in the same direction. If the loops are brought nearer, what will happen?

A

(a) Current will increase in each loop

B

(b) Current will decrease in each loop

C

( c) Current will remain same in each loop

D

(d) Current will increase in one and decrease in the other

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

(b ) When the loops are brought nearer, magnetic flux linked with each loop increases. Thus the current will be induced in each loop in a direction opposite to its own current in order to oppose the increase in magnetic flux. Athis is in accordance with Lenz's law. So, the current will decrease in each loop.
