The rates of cooling of two different liquids put in exactly similar calorimeters and kept in identical surroundings are the same if

A

The masses of the liquids are equal

B

Equal masses of the liquids at the same temperature are taken

C

Different volumes of the liquids at the same

D

Equal volumes of the liquids at the same temperature are taken

The correct Answer is:
D

`(dT)/(dt)=(sigmaA)/(mc)(T^4-T_0^4)`. If the liquids are put in exactly similar calorimeters and identical surrounding then we can cosider `T_0` and A constant. Then
`(dT)/(dt)prop((T^4-T_0^4))/(mc)` ..(i)
If we consider that equal masses of liquids (m) are taken at the same temperature then
`(dT)/(dt)prop((T^4-T_0^4))/(mc)`
`implies(dT)/(dt)prop((T^4-T_0^4))/(Vrhoc)`
Now if we consider that equal volumes of liquids `(V)` are taken at the same temperature then
`(dT)/(dt)prop(1)/(rhoc)`
so for same rate of cooling multiplication of `rhoxxc` for two liquids of different nature can be possible. so option (d) may be correct.

A mass of 50g of water in a closed vessel, with surroundings at a constant temperature takes 2 minutes to cool from 30^(@)C to 25^(@)C . A mass of 100g of another liquid in an identical vessel with identical surroundings takes the same time to cool from 30^(@) C to 25^(@)C . The specific heat of the liquid is: (The water equivalent of the vessel is 30g.)

Two spheres of same material and radius r and 2r are heated to same temperature and are kept in identical surroundings, ratio of their rate of loss of heat is

Newton’s law of cooling says that the rate of cooling of a body is proportional to the temperature difference between the body and its surrounding when the difference in temperature is small. (a) Will it be reasonable to assume that the rate of heating of a body is proportional to temperature difference between the surrounding and the body (for small difference in temperature) when the body is placed in a surrounding having higher temperature than the body? (b) Assuming that our assumption made in (a) is correct estimate the time required for a cup of cold coffee to gain temperature from 10^(@)C to 15^(@)C when it is kept in a room having temperature 25^(@)C . It was observed that the temperature of the cup increases from 5^(@)C to 10^(@)C in 4 min

Statement-1: There are two spheres made of same amount of material, one of them is hollow and other is solid. They are heated to same temperature and left in identical surroundigs. The initial rate of cooling will be greater for hollow sphere. ltBrgt Statement-2: The rate of heat loss depends on surface area and temperature.

A sphere and a cube of equal volumes both are made of iron and have similar surface. If both are cool in identical surrounding, at a lower temperature, then the ratio of the initial rates of loss of heat is

The rate of cooling of a body is 0.5^(@)C//"minute" , when the body is 50^(@)C above the surrounding. What is the rate of cooling if the body is 30^(@)C above the surrounding ?
