Write electron dot structures and describe the geometry of the following molecules
(a) `NH_(2)OH` (Hydroxylamine)
(b) `NH_(2)NH_(2)` (Hybrazine)
(c ) `CH_(3)COCI` (Acety1 chloride)
(d) `CH_(2)=NH`( methylenamine) .

Text Solution

(i) Due to one lp of `e^(-)` and three `bp's` N-atom is `sp^(3)` hybridised but pyramidal in shape
(ii) Due to two `lp's " of " e^(-')s` and two `bp's` O-atom is `sp^(3)` hybridised but bent about the O-atom
Both `N` atoms are `sp^(3)` hybridised and pyramidal about each N atom
(i) `C^(1)` is `sp^(3)` hybridised and is tetrahedral in shape
(ii) `C^(2)` is `sp^(2)` hybridised and is trigonal planar about this C-atom
Both `C` and `N` atoms are `sp^(2)` hybridised and are planar about `C` and `N` atoms
