Rationalise the given statements and give chemical reactions.
a. Lead(IV) chloride reacts with `Cl_(2)` to give `PbCl_(4)`.
b. Lead(IV) chloride is highly unstable towards heat.
c. Lead is known not to form an iodide, `Pbl_(4)`.

a.Due to inert pair effect, `+2` oxidation state in `Pb` is more stable than `+4` oxidation state, hence, lead `(II)` chloride will not react with `Cl_(2)` to give `PbCl_(4)`.
`PbCl_(2)+Cl_(2)to` no reaction
b.Due to inert pair effect, `Pb(IV)` is less stable than `Pb(II)`, hence, lead `(IV)` chloride will decompose on heating to give lead(II)chloride and chlorine.
`PbCl_(2)overset("Heat")to PbCl_(2)+Cl_(2)uarr`
c. Lead is not known to form an iodide `(Pbl_(4))` due to high oxidising power of `Pb(IV)` ion and high reducing power of `I^(ө)` ion.
