What is dry ice? Why is it so called?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Dry ice is solid `CO_(2)`. When it is kept in air under `1 atm` pressure, it sublimes. In other words, unlike ordinary ice, it does not melt and hence does not wet the surface on which it is kept. Therefore, it is called dry ice.
