Addition of `Cl_(2)` turns it colourless. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`Cl_(2)` is a stronger oxidising agent than `I_(2)` and hence oxidises `I^(Theta)` to `I_(2)` initialy, which imparts a brown colour to the solution.
`Cl_(2)+2KI to 2KCl+underset(("Colourless"))(2HIO_(3))`.
