`2KI+CI_(2)rarr I_(2)+2KCI` `[2I^(Theta)rarr I_(2),CI_(2)rarr 2CI^(Theta)]`
Standard reduction potential of chlorine is more than that of iodine, therefore, in the reaction iodide gets oxidised to iodine, and chlorine gets reduced to chloride. Standard reduction potential of halogens are as follows: `F_(2)gtCI_(2)gtBr_(2)I_(2)`
Therefore `F_(2)` can displace (oxidise) `CI^(Theta),Br^(Theta)` and `I^(Theta)` ions but reverse is not possible. Similarly, `CI_(2)` can oxidise or displace `Br^(Theta)` and `I^(Theta)` ions but reverse is not possible. Likewise `Br_(2)` can displace or oxidise `I^(Theta)` ions but reverse is not possible.
