What criterion is followed for the selectrion of the stationary phase in chromatography?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The stationary plase is selected in such a way that the impurities are more strongly adsorbed on the stationary phase than element to be purified. Under these conditions, when the clumn is extracted, the impurities will be raetained by the stationary phase while the pure component is easily eluted.
