Which one of the following does not exist?
(i). `XeOF_4`
(ii). `NeF_2`
(iii). `XeF_4`
(iv). `XeF_6`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Correct option is (ii), `NeF_2` does not exist as the sum of first and second ionisation enthalpies of `Ne` are much higher than `Xe`. As a result `F_2` cannot oxidise `Ne`. On the other hand `XeF_4`,`XeF_6`,`XeOF_4` do exist.
