There are two paths for the preparation of phyebnyl-2, 4-dinitro phenyl ether (C). Which path is feasible and why ?
Path I :

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

a. Path I is feasible. ArSN reaction (Wiliamson's synthesis) of uncleophile `PhO^(-)` with (B) is feasible. Also, Br of (B) is activated by the two EWG `(--NO_(2))` groups.
b. Path II is not feasible. ArSN reaction of the nucleophile `PhO^(-)` with A is not feasible because no activating group is activating group is present in (A).
c. Dintration of (E) does not give (C) but it gives beacuse the first nitro group is deactivating so that second nitro group enters the other ring at p-position.
