Statement I : p-Hydroxybenzoic acid has ...

Statement I : p-Hydroxybenzoic acid has a lower boiling point than o-hydroxybenzoic acid.
Statement II o-Hydorxybenzoic acid has intramolecular hydrogen bonding.

A

Statement `I` is true , Statement `II` is true , Statement `II` is the correct explanation of Statement `I`.

B

Statement `I` is true , Statement `II` is true , Statement `II` is not the correct explanation of Statement `I`.

C

Statement `I` is true , Statement `II` is false.

D

Statement `I` is false , Statement `II` is true.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Due to intermolecular `H-`bonding in p-hydroxy-benzoic acid `(I)`, they have high boiling point , however, there is intramolecular `H-`bonding in `o-`hydroxybenzoic acid `(II)`, due to which they have low boiling point.
Hence, Statement `(I)` is false but statement `(II)` is true.
