A small test charge is released at rest ...

A small test charge is released at rest at a point in an electrostatic field configuaration. Will it travel along the field line passing through that point ?

The line of force gives the direction of accelaration of charge. If the electric line of force is linear the test charged will move along the line if the line of force is not linear the charge will not go along the line .
