Consider the three cases given in figure...

Consider the three cases given in figures shown. Assume the friction to be absent everywhere and the pulleys to be light, the string connecting the blocks to other block or fixed vertical wall to be light and inextensible. Let `T_(A)` , `T_(B)` and `T_(C)` be the etnsion in the strings in figure `A` , figure `B` and figure `C` respectively. Then pick the correct comparison between the given tension (for the instant shown) from options below.

A

`T_(A)=T_(B)=T_(C)`

B

`T_(B)`=`T_(C)ltT_(A)`

C

`T_(A)ltT_(B)ltT_(c)`

D

`T_(B)ltT_(C)ltT_(A)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

The magnitude of acceleration of hanging `2kg` block is highest in figure `B` and least in figure `A` . The magnitude of weight acting downward on each hanging block (of same masses) is same. Hence tension shall be highest for block having least acceleration (because it is tension which decreases acceleration of each block). therefore `T_(A)gtT_(C)gtT_(B)` .
