An `800 N` marine in basic training climbs a `12.0 m` vertical rope at a constant speed in `8.00 s`. What is his power output?

A

`1.8 kW`

B

`1.2 kW`

C

`2.2 kW`

D

`2.8 kW`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

The marine must exert an `800N` upward force , oppisite gravitational force , to lift his body at constant speed . The Marine 's power output is the work he does divided by the time interval
`Power = (W)/(t)`
`P= (mgh)/(t) = ((800 N)(12.0m))/(8.00s) =1200W = 1.2kW`
