Three objects coloured black, gray and white can withstand hostile conditions upto `2800^(@)C`. These objects are thrown into a furance where each of them attains a temperature of `2000^(@)C`. Which object will glow brightest?

A

The white object

B

All glow with equal brigtness

C

Gray object

D

The black object

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

An ideal black body absorbs all the radiations incident upon it and has an emissivity equal to 1. If a black body and an identical another body are kept at the same temperature, then the black body will radiate maximum power. Hence, the black object at a temperature of `2000^(@)C` will glow brightest.

Three objects sphere , a cube and a circular plate of equal mass are constructed from same material . All of the three objects are initially heated to a temperature of 150^@C and then left to cool at room temperature. Will they all cool down at the same ? If not, which of them will cool faster and why ?

Four copper plates of the same dimensions are painted with red, green, white and black colours. All of them are heated upto a temperature of 300^(@)C and then allowed to cool in the surrounding, which is at room temperature. Which plate would cool at the earliest?

A man standing on sea-shore sees an elongated image (shown by dashed line) of a floating object AB. In fact he finds the image to be oscillating due to air turbu- lence. Figure (ii) gives three plots (a, b and c) of height from the water surface vs air temperature. Which one best illustrates the air-temperature condition that can create this image? [Many people have seen sea monsters due to this phenomena!]

Two solid bodies of equal mass m initially at T = 0^(@)C are heated at a uniform and same rate under identical conditions. The temperature of the first object with latent heat L_(1) and specific heat capacity in solid state C_(1) changes according to graph 1 on the diagram. the temperature of the second object withe latent heat L_(2) and specific heat capacity in solid state C_(2) changes according to graph 2 on the diagram. based on what is shown on the graph, the latent heat L_(1) and L_(2) and the specific heat capacities C_(1) and C_(2) in solid state obey which of the following relationships?

In the following question, two columns are given, containing a connector and three phrases each. In the first column, the phrases are A, B and C and in the second column, the phrases are D, E and F. You have to make meaningful sentences using the connectors and from the phrases of both the columns. There are five options, four of which display the sequence(s) in which the phrases with the connectors can be joined to form a grammatically and contextually correct sentence. Incidentally I. (A) The objective for development should (B) I have found the item in the supermarket (C) The school cricket team did not get disheartened by the initial setback II (D) encourage the development of industries and on the other hand ensure the preservation of the environment. (E) she performed poorly in the English test. (F) I met Mrs Anamika, an old classmate of mine, there.
