Amit buys few grams of gold at the poles...

Amit buys few grams of gold at the poles as per the instruction of one of his friends. He hands over the same when he meets him at the equator. Will the friend agree with the weight of gold bought ? If not, why ? [Hint. The value of g is greater at the poles than at the equater.]

We have learnt that value of g is greater at the poles than at the equater, i.e., `g_(e) gt g_(e)`.
As weight of gold at poles, `W_(p)=mg_(p)`and weight of gold at equater,`W_(e)=mg_(e)`,
therefore, `W_(p) gt W_(e)` or `W_(e) lt W_(p)`
i.e., weight of gold at the equator will be less than the weight of gold at the the poles. Obviously, the freind at equator will not agree with the weight of gold bought at poles.

An astronaut landed on a planet and found that his weight at the pole of the planet was one third of his weight at the pole of the earth. He also found himself to be weightless at the equator of the planet. The planet is a homogeneous sphere of radius half that of the earth. Find the duration of a day on the planet. Given density of the earth =d_(0).
