Earth attracts everybody towards its cen...

Earth attracts everybody towards its centre. Therefore, every object, object when free, falls towards the earth due to gravitational force of earth on it.This is the phenomenon of free fall. The acceleration due to gravity (g). On the surface of earth, `g=9.8m//s^(2)`. This value does not depend on mass of the body or nature of the body.
Read the avobe passage and answer the following quetion:
(i) convert the value of g in `km/hr^(2)`.
(ii) Is the value of g on moon the same as on earth?
(iii) What vslues of life do you learn from this concept?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) `g=(9.8m)/((sec)^(2))=(9.8xx10^(-3)km)/((1/(60xx60)hr)^(2)`
`9.8xx10^(-3)xx3600xx3600 km//hr^(2)=1.27xx10^(5)km//hr^(2)`
(ii) No, the value of g on moon is only `(1)/(6)th` of its value on earth.
(iii) The concept of acceleration due to gravity implies that without check and balance in life, each of us can face 'free fall' situation i.e., if we do not colntrol ourselves in every respect, our life may fall freely to any lower level. The speed and accelaration of free fall would nor depend upon nature of individuals.Rther, it would depend upon laxity of controls.
