Prove that time taken by a body to rise...

Prove that time taken by a body to rise to highest point is always equal to the time taken by it to fall through he same height.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Time taken by body to rise to highes point
from `v=v+at`
`0=u-g t, t=(u)/(g)`
From `v^(2)-u(2)=2as`
`0-u^(2)=(-g)h,h=u^(2)/2g`
this is the maximum height.
(ii) time taken by the bnody to fall to ground
From `s=ut+(1)/(2)at^(2)`
`u^(2)/2g=0+(1)/(2)g t^(2)`
`r^(2)=u^(2)/g^(2),t=(u)/(g)` which is same as in (i) above.

Two projectiles are thrown with different velocities and at different angles so as to cover the same maximum height. Show that the sum of the times taken by each to reach the highest point is equal to the total time taken by either of the projectiles.

Two projectiles are projected from the same point different velocities and different angles of projection .If the maximum height attained by both the projectiles is same, show that sum of the times taken by each to reach the highest point is equal to the total time of flight of either of the projectiles .

The time taken by a particle to slide down a smooth inclined plane is double the time it would take in falling down through a height equal to the vertical height of the plane. The inclination of the plane with horizontal is :
