A geostationary satellite is orbiting the earth at a height 5 R above the surface of earth, where R is radius of earth. Find the time period of another of another satellite at a height of 2 R from the surface of earth.

Verified by Experts

Here, `h_(1)=5R :. R_(1)=5R+R=6R,T_(1)=24h`
`h_(2)=R :. R_(2)=2R+R=3R,T_(2)=?`
According to kepler's 3rd law.
`(T_(2)^(2))/(T_(1)^(2))=(r_(2)^(3))/(r_(1)^(3))=((3R)/(6R))^(3)=(1)/(8)`
`T_(2)=T_(1)/sqrt8=24/(2sqrt2)h=8.4h`
