A man weighing 50 kg runs along a railway track with a velocity of 18 `km//h` and jumps onto a stationary car of 2 quintal standing on the rails. What would be the velocity acquered by the car ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, `m_(1)=50 kg,V_(1)=18 km//h=5 m//s , m_(2)=`quintal`=200 kg,v_(2)=0` Applying principle of conservation of linear momentum,
`v=(m_(1)v_(1)+m_(2)v_(2))/(m_(1)+m_(2))=(50xx5+200xx0)/(50+200)=1 m//s`
