Calculate the greatest and the least pressure exerted by a metal block of size `20cmxx8xxcmxx5cm` and having a mass of `5kg`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Area of the smallest face , `A_1=8cmxx5cm=40cm^2=40xx10^-4m^2`
Area of the largest face, `A_2=20cmxx8cm=160cm^2=160xx10^-4m^2`
Thus, the greatest pressure, `P_1=(5kgwt)/(30xx10^-4m^2)=(50N)/(40xx10^-4m^2)=12500Pa`
and the least pressure, `P_2=(5kgwt)/(160xx10^-4m^2)=(50N)/(160xx10^-4m^2)=3125Pa`
