The power of a motor pump is 2kW. How much water per minute the pump can raise to a heiht of 10 m ? (Given `g = 10 m//s^2)`

Text Solution

Power of the pump, P = 2kW, = 2000 W……… (i)
Height to which water is raised, h = 10 m
If m is the mass of water (in kg) pmuped per minute (60s),
work done by the pump in 60 s = mgh
Power of the pump `= ((mgh)/(60))W (as power = (work)/(time)) ....... (ii)`
From eqns. (i) and (ii), `((mgh)/(60))W = 2000W`
or `m = (2000xx60)/(gh) = (2000xx60)/(10xx10) =1200kg`
