A lorry and a car, moving with the same kinetic energy are brought to rest by application of brakes which provied equal retarding forces. Which one of them will come to rest in a shorter distance ?

Text Solution

The kinetc energy of each vechical (the lorry and the car) is spent in doing work against the retarding force (F) of brakes, i.e., `E_k = W = F xx s or s =(E_k)/(F)`
Sicne `E_k` and F are the same, s is the same in both the cases, i.e., both the lorry and the car will come to rest after coverting the some distance (s).
