A sonar emits pulses on the surface of water which are detected after reflection from its bottom at a depth of `1531 m`. If the time interval between the emission and detection of the pulse is `2 s`, find the speed of sound in water.

The correct Answer is:
1531 m//s

`v = (2 d)/(t) = (2(1531 m))/( 2s) = 1531 m//s`.

An impluse laser may be treaed as a source of phtons that are emitted during the time interval of the pulse which is followrd by a time interval when no photons are produced. Pulse are periodically repeated. A laser beam of diameter d = 10 microns is directed upward and is perpendicular to the then foil surface which has an index of reflection rho = 0.50 (see the sketch of the experiment). The index of reflection of the surface is the ratio of the relected energy of foil that can be supported in the air solely by the light pressure of the laser beam ?

A source of sound emitting waves at 360 H_(Z) is placed in front of a vertical wall, at a distance 2 m from it. A detector is also placed in front of the wall at the same distance from it. Find the minimum distance between the source and the detestor for which the detector detects a maximum of sound. Take speed of sound in air = 360 m//s . Assume that there is not phase change in reflected wave.
