A person on a pier observes a set of incoming waves that have a sinusoidal form with a distance of `1.6 m` between the crests. If a wave laps against the pier every `4 s`, what are :
(a) the frequency and
(b) the speed of the waves ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) `lamda = 1.6 m, T = 4 s, v = (1)/(T) = (1)/(4 s) = 0.25 Hz`
(b) `v = v lamda = (0.25 xx 1.6) m//s = 0.4 m//s`.
