In the mirror formula, (1)/(f)=(1)/(v)+1...

In the mirror formula, `(1)/(f)=(1)/(v)+1/u,f` does not change when u is changed.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When u is changed, v changes but f remains constant. This is because f depends only on radius of curvature of the mirror.

What is f in mirror formula (1)/(u)+(1)/(v)=(1)/(f) ?

The focal length of a less is given by the formula (1)/(f)=(1)/(u)+(1)/(v) . Make f as the subject of the formula. if u=20cm and v=30, then find f. The following steps are involved in solving the above problem. Arrange them in sequential order. (A) Given (1)/(f)=(1)/(u)+(1)/(v) (B) rArr f=(uv)/(u+v) (C) f=(20xx30)/(20+30)=(600)/(50)=12 cm. (D) rArr (1)/(f)=(v+u)/(uv)

State mirror formula. How does 'f' change when object distance 'u' from the mirror is changed?

Assertion:- The formula ((1)/(4)+(1)/(u)=(1)/(f)) connecting u and v for a spherical mirror is valid only for mirros whose sizes are very small compared to their radii of curvatures. Reason:- Laws of reflection are strictly valid for smaller size of of optical system.

The mirror formula is given by 1/v+1/u=1/f where the symbols have their usual meanings. Then the lens formula is given by
