Explain different ways to induce current in a coil.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

To induce current in a coil, the magnetic flux linked with it is to be changed. This is achieved if :
(a) there is a relative motion between the coil and a magnet.
(b) there is a relative motion between the coil and a conductor carrying current.
(c) there is a change in the current in a conductor placed near the coil.

Assertion :- Whenever magnetic flux linked with the coil changes with respect to time, then an emf is induced in ti . Reason :- According to law , the direction of induced current in any coil in such a way that it always oposses the cause by which it is produced.

Explain why, the direction of induced current in the coil of an A.C. Generator changes after every half revolution of the coil.

Assertion: Only a charge in magnetic flux will maintain an induced current in the coil. Reason: The presence of large magnetic flux through a coil maintains a current in the coil if the circuit is continuous.

A constant current of 3.0 A flows counterclockwise in the circular coil in the following figure. What is the direction of the induced current in the coil on the right?

Assertion : The presence of large magnetic flux through a coil maintains a current in the coil if the circuit is continuous. Reason : Magnetic flux is essential to maintain an induced current in the coil.

As shown in the figure, the key K is closed, the direction of the induced current in the coil B will be -
