A car travelling with a velcity of ` 60 km h^(-1)` on a straight road is ahead of a motor cycle travelling with a speed of `76 km h^(-1)`. How would the relative velcity be alterd if motor cucle is ahead of car?

Case (i). When car is travelling ahead the motor cycle.
.
Refer to Fig.2 (a) 39. (a), relative velocity of car w. r. t. motor cycle,
`v_(CM) =v_(C0 -v_(M)= 60 -76 =- 16 km h^(-1)`
Case (ii) When motor cycle is travelling ahead of the car.
`v_(CM) =v_(C0 -v_(M)= 60 -76 =- 16 km h^(-1)`
It means relative velocity will remain the same as it does not depend on the position of the two hodies. But in case (i), the separation between car and motor cycle will be decreasing . But in case (ii) the separation between car and motor cycle will be increasing.
