A shp is sailing due west at ` 10 ms^(-1)`.A woman runs across the deck at ` 5 ms^(-1)` in a direction at right angles to the direction of motion of ship , towards north. Find the magnitude and direction of the velocity of woman relative to sea.

Velocity of woman, ` vec v_W = vec (AB)`, wher ` v_W= 5 ms^(-1)`
Velocity of woman w.r.t. sea =resultant velocity
or woman ` = vec v_R = vec (OB)`
wher `vec_R = sqrt (v_s^2+ v_w^2) = sqrt ( 10^2) = sqrt (10^2 +5^2) = 5 sqrt 5 ms^(-1)`
` tan beta = v_w/v_s = 5/ (10) = 1/2 0.5 = tan 26^@34'`
` beta = 26^234'` north of west .
