The vehicles stop on applying brakes . This is fully in accordance with the law of conservation of momentum . On applying brakes , we apply some opposing force on the vehicle As a result the vehicle comes to rest . The loss of momentum of the vehicle is exactly equal to the impulse of the applied force .
