Why frictional force gets increased when two surfaces in contact are polished beyond a certain limit ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When surfaces in contact are polished beyond a certain limit number of atmos/molecules of the surfaces in contact in increases and distance between them decreases Therefore strong adhesive forces come into play . They are adhesive forces come into play They are responsible for increasing the friction .

Which force gets reduced when the two surface in contact are polished to make them smooth ?

The frictional force between two surfaces is independent of

(A) : Polishing a surface beyond a certain limit increases rather than decreases the frictional forces . (R) : When the surface is polished beyond a certain limit , the molecules exert strong attractive force . This is called surface adhesion , to overcome which additional force is required . Hence frictional force increases .

Friction depends on the _____ of two surfaces in contact.

Name the force which increases when the two surface in contact are made more rough.

Friction does not depend on the nature of the surface in contact.

Friction depends on the _____ with which the two surfaces in contact are pressed together.

A system of two blocks is placed on a rought horizontal surface as shown in figure below The coefficient of static and kinetic friction at two surfaces are shown A force F is horizontal applied on the upper block as shown . Let f_(1) ,f_(2) represent the frictional force between upper and lower surface of contact respectively and a_(1),a_(2) represent the acceleration of 3kg and 2kg block respectively If F is gradually increasing forcethen which of the following statement (s) contact would be true?
