A man in a circus show jumps from a height of `10m` and is caught by a net spred below him The net sags down `2m` due to impact Calculate average force exerted by the net on the man stop his fall Take mass of man = 60 kg and acc. During free fall`=10 m//s^(2)` .

The correct Answer is:
`-3000N`

Let `upsilon` be the vel of man on striking the net
`u = 0, a = 10m//s^(2), s =10 m`
From `upsilon^(2) - u^(2) = 2 as`
`upsilon^(2) - 0 = 2 xx10 xx 10, upsilon = sqrt(200) = 10 sqrt(2m//s`
For the movement of the let `u = sqrt2 m//s, upsilon = 0, s s =2 m, a =` ?
From `upsilon^(2) - u^(2) = 2 a s, 0 -200 = 2 xx a xx 2`
`a = - 200//4 = - 50m//s^(2)`
Average force exerted by net `=m xx a = 60 (-50)`
`=-300 N` .

A man of mass M = 58 kg jumps from an aeroplane as shown in Fig. He sees the hard ground below him and a lake at a distance d = 1 m from the point directly below him. He immediately puts off his jacket (mass m = 2 kg) and throws it in a direction directly away from the lake. If he just fails to strike the ground, find the distance (in 10^(1) m ) he should walk now to pick his jacket. (Neglect air resistance and take the velocity of man at the time of jump with respect to earth zero.)
