In the figure given below, the position time graph of a particle of mass 0.1kg is shown. The impulse at t=2 sec is

A

`0.2kgms^(-1)`

B

`0.02kg ms^(-1)`

C

`0.1kgms^(-1)`

D

`0.4kg ms^(-1)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
a

From the graph it is clear that upto `t = 2.0 s` the body moves with a constant velocity = slope of
position time graph ` =(4)/(2) = 2 m//s` After `t = 2.0 s`
position time graph is parallel to time axis which means that the body comes to rest
`:.` Change in velocity ` = dupsilon = 2m//s`
Impulse = change in momentum
` = dp = m dupsilon = 0.1 xx 2 = 0.2 kgms^(-1)` .
