A lorry and a car moving with the same kinetic energy are brought to rest by the application of brakes which provides equal retarding forces. Which of them will come to rest in a shorter distance?

A

`x_(1)=x_(2)`

B

`x_(1)=2x_(2)`

C

`2x_(1)=x_(2)`

D

`x_(1)=4x_(2)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

Both the trucks have the same kinetic energy. When brakes are applied, if the frictional force between the road and the tyres in both the cases in same, they would cover the same distance before coming to rest, `i.e., x_(1)=x_(2)`
