Why is it easier to open a tap with two fingers than with onw finger ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

With two fingers, we are applying a couple whose arm is equal to length of handle of the tap. When we apply force with one finger, an equal and opposite force acts at the axis of rotation. Length of arm of couple is halved. Moment of couple is halved.
