Calculate moment of inertia of a uniform...

Calculate moment of inertia of a uniform circular disc of mass `10 kg` and diameter `0.5 m` about a tangent perpendicular to the plane of the disc.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, `M = 10 kg, R = (0.5)/(2)m = (1)/(4)`
About an axis passing through centre of disc perpendicular to its plane, `I = (1)/(2)MR^(2)`. Using theorem of parallel axis, moment of inerta about a tangent perpendicular to planet of disc,
`I' = I + MR^(2) = (1)/(2)MR^(2) + MR^(2) = (3)/(2)MR^(2) I' = (3)/(2) xx 10((1)/(4))^(2) = (30)/(32) = (15)/(16)kg m^(2)`
