What is the moment of intertia of a circular disc about one of its diameters ?

Moment of inertia of a disc of radius `R` and mass `M`, about an axis perpendicular to its plane and passing through its centre is `I_(z) = MR^(2)//2`. Let us take three concurrent axes through the centre `O` of the disc, as `x,y,z` axes as shown in fig `x` and `y` axes are in the plane of disc and `z` axis is perpendicular to it. According to theorem of `_|_` axes,

`I_(z) = I_(x) + I_(y)`
`(1)/(2)MR^(2) = 2I_(x) ( :' I_(y) = I_(y))` or `I_(x) = (1)/(4)MR^(2)`
